Open Office has Open Office Writer.
Open Office Writer-It has everything you would expect from a modern, fully equipped word processor or desktop publisher: powerful features like AutoCorrect, AutoComplete, AutoFormat, Styles and Formatting, Text Frames and Linking, Tables of Contents, Indexing, Bibliographical References, Illustrations, Tables, and other objects.Writer is simple enough for a quick memo, powerful and stable enough to create complete books with lots of graphics, headings etc.
If Microsoft Office has Microsoft Office PowerPoint,
Open Office has Open Office Impress
Open Office Impress- It is a truly outstanding tool for creating effective multimedia presentations. Your presentations will stand out with 2D and 3D clip art, fontworks, special effects, animation, and high-impact drawing tools. A multi-pane view puts all the tools at your fingertips, and you can 'park' your most commonly used drawing tools around your screen ready for single-click access. Share your work in many ways: not only pdf, but also html and Flash. If Microsoft Office has Microsoft Office Excel,
Open Office has Open Office Calc
Open Office Calc- It is the spreadsheet you've always wanted. Newcomers find it intuitive and easy to learn; professional data miners and number crunchers will appreciate the comprehensive range of powerful features including Advanced DataPilot technology, Natural language formulas, an Intelligent Sum Button, a comprehensive range of advanced spreadsheet functions, Styles and Formatting, and a Scenario Manager for "what ifs".If Microsoft Office has Paint,
Open Office has Open Office Draw
Open Office Draw- is anything from a quick sketch to a complex plan. Drawgives you the tools to communicate with graphics and diagrams. Manipulate objects, rotate in two or three dimensions; use sophisticated rendering to create photorealistic images. Smart connectors make short work of flowcharts, organisation charts, network diagrams, etc. Styles - a common OpenOffice.org feature - help you control your work easily and precisely in Draw.
A Draw image is worth a thousand words!
LASTLY:If Microsoft Office has Microsoft Office Access,
Open Office has Open Office Base
Open Office Base- it enables you to manipulate database data seamlessly within OpenOffice.org 3. Create and modify tables, forms, queries, and reports, either using your

computers are unique in that they have software while other machines dont. why it is an advantage to use software in machine in addition to hardware?give at least three reasons
1.Computer software, or just software, is a collection of computer programs and related data that provide the instructions for telling a computer what to do and how to do it.2.. In other words software is a set of programs, procedures, algorithms and its documentation
3.Program software performs the function of the program it implements, either by directly providing instructions to the computer hardware or by serving as input to another piece of software.

question:explain why the computer components we have just discussed are called ''hardwares''?
answer:
A typical computer (Personal Computer, PC) contains in a desktop or tower case the following parts:
A typical personal computer consists of a case or chassis in a tower shape (desktop), containing components such as a motherboard.
The motherboard is the main component inside the case. It is a large rectangular board with integrated circuitry.

Computer Hardware Definition
Hardware is a comprehensive term for all of the physical parts of a computer, as distinguished from the data it contains or operates on, and the software that provides instructions for the hardware to acoomplish tasks. The boundary between hardware and software is slightly blurry - firmware is software that is "built-in" to the hardware, but such firmware is usually the province of computer programmers and computer engineers in any case and not an issue that computer users need to concern themselves with.A typical computer (Personal Computer, PC) contains in a desktop or tower case the following parts:
- Motherboard which holds the CPU, main memory and other parts, and has slots for expansion cards
- power supply - a case that holds a transformer, voltage control and fan
- storage controllers, of IDE, SCSI or other type, that control hard disk , floppy disk, CD-ROM and other drives; the controllers sit directly on the motherboard (on-board) or on expansion cards
- graphics controller that produces the output for the monitor
- the hard disk, floppy disk and other drives for mass storage
- interface controllers (parallel, serial, USB, Firewire) to connect the computer to external peripheral devices such as printers or scanners

The Philippine National Anthem
land of the morning
child of the sun returning,
with gfervor burning,
three do our souls adore,
land dear and holy
cradle of noble heroes.
ne'er shall invaders
trample thy sacred shore.
ever wthin thy skies and through thy clouds
and o'er thy hills and seas
do we behold the radiance , feel the thorb,
of glorious liberty.
thy banner floats above us here,
it's sun and stars alight-
oh, never shall it's shining field
be dimmed by tyrant's might!
beautiful land of love, o land of light
in thine embrace 'tis rapture to lie,
but it is glory ever , when thou art wronged,
for us , thy sons to suffer and die.

The Three IDIOTS! XD
The first part we saw a while ago , was the scene when they're singing "aal izz well". They're funny and looks crazy while singing and dancing. One of them invented a "flying camera"--:>(as i know). They let it flew to the windows, then, when they focused it through the window of Joy, they saw him hung and dead. They hurriedly ran to Joy's room and saw on his wall " I quit".
The next day, the other man reported to the principal that the cause of Joy's suicidal was pressure in studies. But the principal hesitated. Instead the principal made the student teach engineering because the principal thought that the student is being self righteous and "feeling" more intelligent than the teachers. The student started teaching. He wrote some unusual words in the board and instructed the students to find its meaning for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, no one got the meaning. Then the student revealed that the word he wrote was not really existing. It is just the names of his 2 friends. The principal got angry and said "Are you joking around?!?! you are supposed to teach mechanical engineering!". "Im not teaching engineering, Im just teaching you the right way to teach" the student explained and ran away.
The three friends went to an engagement party which they know it is a party they are not invited. They are just there to grab some food for free. Then they saw a couple fighting because the girl was wearing a cheap watch and the boy dont want his fiance to wear such a thing. After seeing those to fight and after the boy went away, one of them talked to the girl and said that "the boy only wants money and popularity from you. Take my advice or just leave it". Then the girl said to her father, unknowingly their principal, "Father, are they really invited?" then the principal recognized their faces and said" That's my students! How dare they did this!"Then the principal scolded them and sued them out of the party.
One day, the 3 friends knew there would be a guest speaker for the "Teachers day". They messed up the speech of the speaker and everyone laughed and some got insulted.
The next day, they , again, saw Pia-> (the one they saw at the engagement ceremony) and her fiance buying a limited edition watch. They again made fun of her husband telling him Pia lost her expensive watch. And her fiance scolded her and talked about money. But Pia told her fiance " Here's the watch! Go find another wrist for that watch!".
-- to be continued by I- Sapphire. :))
Lesson 3 :")))))
This lesson states procedures on how to take care of your computer, good working habits, proper workstation design, and proper posture.
Not only humans should be taken care of, but also computers. We need to take care of it because Computer is an electronic device used in almost every field even where it is most unexpected. That is why this age is called as the era of IT. And now we cannot imagine a world without computers. It is made up of two things one is the hardware and other is software. All physical components of computer like keyboard, mouse, monitor etc comes under the hardware whereas all the programs and languages used by the computer are called software. These days computers are the tools for not only engineers and scientists but also they are being used by millions of people around the world.
But don't just focus on the computer, mind yourself while in front of the computer too.
Computers have side effects for humans too, like:*major impact on one's social life. they spend more time behind the computer than interacting with physical human beings face to face.
*people would rather sit online than get out for fresh air and exercise.
*people try finding love and dates online instead of actually going out and meeting people.
*they watch more porn because they have easier access to it and eliminate the feeling of embarrassment they get my going to a flick shop.
*instead of going to libraries, people just go "google it". true research is almost becoming extinct.
*its easier to find out information about people because they put themselves out there for the world to see on sites like myspace and facebook.
*people buy fewer movies and music albums b/c they can just download them, legally or illegally. it also effects the rental stores. morals go down the drain here. suddenly its ok to steal.
*instead of going to the doctor for a proper diagnosis, they research their symptoms online and "self-diagnose".
*people would rather shop online than go to the mall, and bargains are easier to find with sites like ebay.
You should mind your proper postures too.

kinds of computers
Yesterday's Computers
Charles Babbage produced a design for a mechanical computation engine back in the nineteenth century. The precision he demanded of the engineering was not possible at the time so it was not completed. Modern computing involves electronic circuits of one kind or another. Blaise Pascal, a French Mathematician, produced an idea for a digital computer at about the same time.
An electromechanical machine called Collossus was used in the Second World War to crack the Enigma encryption codes used by the German Army. It was so good that it could crack Enigma codes faster than a modern PC with a Pentium processor
The earliest fully electronic computer was built by the US Navy during the Second World War under the supervision of Grace Hopper. It was she who coined the phrase “bug” for a program error, when a moth shorted out a couple of wires. It was she who invented the first computing language, ATP, and she verified the language COBOL which was widely used in industry. She was at the forefront of computer development. As an officer of the Naval Reserve, she achieved the rank of Admiral.

All these early machines were huge, needed large amounts of electricity to keep them going, and specialised people to run them, and interpret the output. Programming them was difficult as they needed to use machine code, the series of 1’s and 0’s that the computer uses. Finding errors was time consuming and difficult.
An American company, International Business Machines, was one of the first to go into commercial production of computers. Its Chairman was famously quoted that he reckoned that there was a market for four or five of these machines worldwide. The main problem was that these machines used thermionic valves (“toobs”) in their electronics. They used a vast amount of electricity and were none too reliable.
Question 13 Explain why computers were not widespread in the nineteen-fifties. ANSWER
When the transistor was invented and perfected in the mid nineteen-fifties, the complex circuitry within a computer could be made into a manageable size. Contrary to expectations, the computer rapidly became a “must have” for large corporations. These were vast machines called mainframes which needed large buildings and a good number of specialised staff to operate them. COBOL (Common Business Oriented Language) was a common language used by these machines, along with the EBCDIC character codes. The picture shows a mainframe:
Mainframes are still in use in some corporations because of the huge sums of money invested. However many mainframes have less computing power than PCs and only survive due to the economics.
Mini-computers are smaller versions of mainframes. Some of these were based on the analogue concept, in which the operational amplifier was at the heart. Analogue computing is almost completely unknown nowadays.
The microcomputer is the generic name for a number of different kinds of small computer, of which the most common is now the PC. When microcomputers came in, in the late seventies, they had taken advantage of the rapidly falling price of integrated circuit chips. Some of these were designed at the home market. Examples include the Sinclair Spectrum, and the Amiga.

The British Broadcasting Corporation sponsored the design of a microcomputer which became very common in schools. The picture below shows a BBC microcomputer.

These machines had a very simple operating system, and were easy to run. Many people used them to write their own software; there was little commercially available software. A number of teenagers made a lot of money by producing software in their bedrooms.

The graphics were crude, and there was little memory. Auxiliary storage was on 5 inch floppy disks that were even cruder than present floppy disk. Some programs were even recoded on audio cassette. Sometimes the programs were broadcast on the radio. The transmission sounded like a nest of angry bees. Some software was available on pre-programmed chip. Access to these was remarkably easy. For Interword, a word processor, you typed “*IW.”. The BBC was very good at:
- Data-logging
- Word-processing
- Spreadsheets
The old BBCs were very reliable. If the programs did go wrong, the computer could be restored by pressing the BREAK key, and the program could be reloaded by pressing SHIFT + BREAK. BBC computers still are in use in some schools. The BBC was overtaken by the Archimedes which, in its later versions could be configured to run like a PC.
history of computers
A computer is a programmable machine designed to sequentially and automatically carry out a sequence of arithmetic or logical operations. The particular sequence of operations can be changed readily, allowing the computer to solve more than one kind of problem.
Conventionally a computer consists of some form of memory for data storage, at least one element that carries out arithmetic and logic operations, and a sequencing and control element that can change the order of operations based on the information that is stored. Peripheral devices allow information to be entered from an external source, and allow the results of operations to be sent out.
A computer's processing unit executes series of instructions that make it read, manipulate and then store data. Conditional instructions change the sequence of instructions as a function of the current state of the machine or its environment.
The first electronic computers were developed in the mid-20th century (1940–1945). Originally, they were the size of a large room, consuming as much power as several hundred modern personal computers (PCs).[1]
Modern computers based on integrated circuits are millions to billions of times more capable than the early machines, and occupy a fraction of the space.[2] Simple computers are small enough to fit into mobile devices, and mobile computers can be powered by small batteries. Personal computers in their various forms are icons of the Information Age and are what most people think of as "computers". However, the embedded computers found in many devices from mp3 players to fighter aircraft and from toys to industrial robots are the most numerous
